Saved the Best for Last

Angel went out with a bang, albeit too soon, and Season 5 was the series best. Although one key character was gone, the remarkable Charisma Carpenter, this season gave us some of the most exciting hours of television in the past few years. Part of this was the addition of James Marsters as Angels Nemesis Spike. The two have excellent chemistry and the bantering back and forth like a married couple was always hilarious to watch. Many episodes were absolutely brilliant. My favorites include Hell Bound, a terrifying episode where Spike is dragged into Hell. Harm's Way, a hilarious episode revolving around the underated Mercedes Mcnab as Harmony, Smile Time, a clever and hysterical episode where Angel turns into a Puppet, and Origin, where Angels son Conner comes back, a emotional and exciting episode. The 2 best episodes of the season are also the most heartbreaking. You're Welcome centers on the return of Cordelia as she awakens from her Coma. This episode is a classic and will have everyone in tears. Finally the best episode is A Hole in The World, where Fred gets sick off of a saccophagus. This episode is one of the most heartbreaking episodes written by the phenomenal Joss Whedon.
The cast is always amazing and this is the season where I finally started to love Amy Acker as Fred. Without giving anything away the final 7 episodes Amy was outstanding. Her performance deserved an Emmy Award or something. Who knew? The series finale was exciting, sad, brilliant, funny, and everything Angel has been known for. It's truly one of the best series on television and season 5 proved it could have gone on for at least 2 or 3 more years. With great storytelling like seasons 5, it's a shame we won't get to see what else this remarkable show could have come up with.
