Bambi (Disney Special Platinum Edition) (1942)
Nearly everyone gets twitterpated in the springtime
One of the greatest animated stories of our lives. Bambi, a young deer, is hailed as the 'Prince of the Forest' at birth. Bambi's youth is comprised of making friends with the other creatures of the forest. Bambi spends his days with his mother learning the skills needed to survive. However, as Bambi discovers the most dangerous of foes, the hunter, he must become as brave as his father, lead the other deer to safety, and rescue his new love so he himself can one day produce a family.
"Kind of wobbly, ain't cha."
David Hand directs Bambi. He is also credited with directing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Hand has acted as "animator" on a total of forty-six films. Unfortunately, all but four have been lost. Obviously the music and story are very well done in this movie, but the animation and development of characters is wonderful. Flower, Bambi, and Thumper really give this movie life, along with the aura of Bambi's father, and the fear of the hunter.
"You got to watch both ends at the same time."
Bambi is an animated classic, and a must have in your Disney DVD collection. It is hard for me to rate my favorite Disney movies, so I do not know what number I would place Bambi. Despite being a slightly depressing movie, it is still a wonderful story. There are a lot of extra features on this release. I enjoyed the short animal piece on the second disk. However, the feature only depicts deer, skunks, rabbits, and Owls in their natural habitat. I wish the piece was longer, and slightly more detailed regarding additional creatures and their environment. Overall, the movie is a must have.
Grade: A+
