Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason (Widescreen Edition) (2004)

Sequels are never, as a rule, as good as the first

One turkey-curry buffet. One set of men fighting like schoolboys. One mini-break, this time to go skiing in the German Alps. One painfully uncomfortable situation in which Bridget wears too-tight underclothing. One embarrassing on-the-job snafu in which Bridget lands on her butt. One equally embarrassing occasion in which Bridget goes to tell Mark Darcy she loves him, in front of a crowd of people. One gorgeous, tall coworker at Mark Darcy's law firm. Sounds familiar? You saw it the first time around in Bridget Jones; you'll see it again in Edge of Reason.

When Edge of Reason opens, Bridget Jones is 33, and not single- rather, having a wonderful relationship with her boyfriend of six weeks, Mark Darcy. Everything seems to be going well... until her friends put a seed of doubt into her mind that Mark might be cheating on her. Bridget is painfully insecure about her relationship, and Mark treats her as though she's a child sometimes, especially when she attempts to break into his house during a firm meeting. Why, oh why can't Bridget just be happy with the way things are, and trust Mark?

Added into the mix is Daniel Cleaver, now working as a travel guide for the same TV station that Bridget works for, incidentally. She hates him- but then the two are sent on a trip to Thailand together. Cleaver becomes the ultimate cad when Bridget discovers that he ordered a Thai prostotute to his room for the evening, and when he neglects to save her from being arrested. Mark Darcy, predictably, comes to her rescue. There are very few redeeming things about this movie; as other people have said, its basically a remake of the original. Although there are some very funny bits, we've already seen it all before. I would not reccomend that you buy this; go out and rent it at Blockbuster.
