A Wonderful Delight, A Pleasant Surprise! I did the unthinkable, and bought this movie without seeing it first. I have made that "mistake" before, but thought my chances of disliking this movie were close to zero. I am a big fan of Johnny Depp and love Kate Winslet, as well. The story was also intriguing to me... so, although I have learned never to expect much of anything I get my hopes up about, I bought this feeling as if it had incredible potential. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this movie lived up to exactly what I hoped it to be... clever, well acted, inspirational, imaginative, visually stunning, and an overall treat with a powerful ending. What a rare surprise, a movie lived up to my expectations and delivered! I have heard several things about the innacurracies of historical events, but the spirit and the emotional impact were spot on and the historical "error" (although I believe it was deliberate), is completely irrelevant in my mind - in fact, it appears necessary in order to fully portray this story's significance in less than 2 hours. Johnny Depp has proven himself, yet again. In fact, with a list of great acting credits, this ranks up with one of his best, in my mind. It is worth pointing out that the story is driven by dialogue and the character relationships, so - although there is nothing innappropriate for child minds, it may appear a bit slow and cause them to lose interest - although my three year old loved the ending! This, I think, explains many of the poor ratings that this movie has received on Amazon - but dont let those "bored" by this movie fool you! This movie is inspiring and does what it intends to do - bring out the child in your heart; so long as you believe! And I believe J M Barrie would be pleased by this movie. When the movie ended, I pulled out my son's copy of Disney's version of Peter Pan and watched it, experiencing it and enjoying it all over again - and in a new light, thanks to this incredible movie.
