content is great, but price/packaging isn't

The good news is that there are some funny episodes in this season of South Park. Since some other reviewers have already done a great job at describing what's here, I won't rehash that information.

The reason for my giving this package only 3 stars is this: While most other TV-on-dvd packages fill their discs up, giving a good content to price ratio, the gang at South Park seem intent on milking their fans for as much money as they can. This "season" contains barely five hours of material. This could have easily fit on two discs, but then the asking price would have seemed too high to many potential buyers. Given the paucity of extras here ("mini" commentaries by only Matt and Trey instead of full length commentaries including other talent on the show such as the Simpsons sets feature) and the small number of episodes included here, a smaller package and correspondingly smaller price would have been in order. The same week another TV series was issued on three discs, but it contained almost twice as many episodes and was priced the same as this set. The previous week another TV series was issued on four dvd's and contained twice as many episodes, but it actually cost less than this South Park set.

I know that the South Park franchise isn't a charity and that no one is forced to pay for these dvd's, but the greed involved here will make me hesitant to buy any future seasons of the show. Quite honestly South Park had reached its peak in this season anyway, with subsequent seasons becoming far too right-wing preachy too much of the time.
