The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition) (2004)

Studio: New Line Home Entertainment
Starring: Elijah Wood
Release Date: December 14, 2004
Running Time:

peter jackson is a joke
yes, the man cannot make a film to save his life. the LOTR trilogy(far from the greatest trilogy of all time.) are nothing more than an excuse for 3 hours of special effects wankery. jackson completely watered down the story too, Tolkien's books are... more

The greatest fantasy story ever told...?
It is probably very unnecessary for me to add my review of The Lord of the Rings, however, it is not often that a treasured fantasy book such as this, becomes a worthwhile film. If you allow yourself to get caught in this story, it really is a fascinating... more

As a whole...THIS MOVIE KICKS ASS!!!!!
This is without a doubt the best movie trilogy ever. I can't get enough of it. The cinematography is breathtaking, the cast is simply amazing, and everything is just perfect! It's the perfect movie. Mere words cannot describe my passion for The Lord of... more

The Greatest
This has got to be one of if not the greatest motion picture trilogy of all time. Winner of more academy awards than any other movie...ever. Peter Jackson does an amazing job of translating the books into screenplay. The books themselves are some of... more

Additional features
This DVD set offers you all that Lord of the Rings currently has to offer. If you've been waiting to purchase in an effort to save a little more, now is the time to buy.

Much of the commentary is both interesting and entertaining. Some of... more

The best trilogy ever! Books or Movies!
I was amazed at how well Peter Jackson portrayed LOTR. My five star rating shows this and I have to say that the theatrical release of ROTK was by far my least favourite LOTR movie. The special edition is better, but not as good as the others in my opinion... more

My top three favorite fantasy films in one convenient box
I won't belabor the points that others have made so well before me. "Lord of the Rings" is simply the best fantasy to come to film ever. These films were crafted with an eye to authenticity and loving detail and are worthy of the timeless classic that... more

Wonderful film experience
The Lotr is the best fictional story alive. The books were my favorites for years, and i am by no means dissapointed by the movies. Peter jackson and the cast brought this movie to life beutifully in a way that no one believed they would be able to. i... more

Best movie!
I have all Special Extended DVD Edition of "Lord of the Rings" and all normal version.
It's such a good story. All the actors did an extremly well job.
Here I first saw my favorite actor - Orlando Bloom - Legolas. All in this movie is perfect:... more

Historic Achievement
How many films can you say will still be watched 10 years from now? In 20 years? 30? I can assure you, this will be one of them. Peter Jackson has exceeded himself to produce a bona fide historic achievement of truly epic proportions. This is cinema at... more

Have an open mind.
The story, the movies are great. The extended versions are well worth the money spent. This is a great collection to have. A word for the user "Klisk" who also wrote a review. People don't really care if you don't like the books, the movies or whatever.... more

The best buy you can in DVD history
There's no that much words to say;
Perfect movies, perfect box set, perfect packaging, perfect documanteries, enjoy the extra-extra footages (not deleted but all completed scenes with finished edit vfx and music), full of entertainment and it worth... more

Didn't like the books, don't like the movies either.
It's unfortunate to say that despite the fact that this might be the 'original' fantasy story, it just isn't a good story. Or perhaps it's just too difficult for me -- No, many people, actually.

Plenty of eyecandy, but... Interesting? more

The greatest story ever told...
The greatest story ever told is now the greatest movie ever made. The extended editions are a MUST HAVE. The extra footage in each of the three films really helps fill out the story, espeically for those who haven't read the books.

more

Just buy it!
Don't waste your time buying one or two of these movies at a time, splurge and get all 3 best versions. That's it, you're done.

Magnificent and memorable!!
This is one of those rare instances where the story is so utterly believable and magnificent that I forget I'm not a part of it. (The same could be said for the books, but as I haven't finished reading them all, I won't review them yet.) The characters,... more

Koxson
If anything makes me sick, its this very trilogy.

Most trilogys make the first two movies good and the 3rd movie rubbish; Back to the future, Jaws, Terminator, Matrix, Blade. Hovever this trilogy, with all its hours one for story, couldn't... more

One needs to take minor discrepancies with a grain of salt.
When it comes to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, one of the things many people complain about is the length of each film. Why would they want to see an additional 40+ minutes of footage if they felt the original cuts were to long. Well, that's... more

Don't forget the sound!
If you haven't heard these films in their DTS ES 6.1 mixes yet, well, you haven't missed an awful lot, and you have probably enjoyed the films anyways. I won't make the ludicrous claim that you must have surround sound, huge tv, and comfy chair to enjoy... more
