The best trilogy ever! Books or Movies!

I was amazed at how well Peter Jackson portrayed LOTR. My five star rating shows this and I have to say that the theatrical release of ROTK was by far my least favourite LOTR movie. The special edition is better, but not as good as the others in my opinion (thought the critics definately disagree!)

Now I'll say what made these movies amazing:

Music: I'm not a classical music fan but Howard Shore is a genius. "Minas Tirith", "Concerning Hobbits", and the main theme are some of his best. I love how every setting has its own music, from the peaceful fiddles in the Shire, to the amazing Mordor theme that I would say is as good as Darth Vader's legendary theme music. Lastly the triumphant sound of the music in Minas Tirith is truly breath-taking.

The art/prop: this may be the most impressive part of the movie. Minas TIrith, Osgiliath, Barad-Dûr, were all amazing, it was really nice how each culture had a unique architecture.

The acting: I never thought anyone could act this well. From Ian Mckellen's incredible Gandalf, Sean Bean's powerful Boromir, Christopher Lee's purely evil and corrupted Saruman, Bernard Hill's heroic and inspiring Théoden, David Wenham's noble Faramir, Sean Astin's breathtaking Sam, Andy Serkis' treachorous Gollum, Elijah Wood's stunning Frodo, and...wait I'll stop before I list the entire cast!

Plot-changes: For the most part I like the plot changes. The shortened, less dull, less mysterious, but way more action-packed, and adventurous opening really made FOTR the best IMHO. It helped get the audience into the story before the second and more epic half. The prologue is great and I don't miss Tom bombadil at all. The council of Elrond wasn't nearly as boring as it could have been. The few scenes with the whole fellowship (Moria and Caradras) are amazing too. The climax of the first with Boromir dying is amazing and gives FOTR a better ending. In TTT, the action started right away with the pursuit of the Uruk-Hai, and a cool dream. The elves at Helm's Deep were a brillianmt idea and shows how ingenious the writing really is. I am not against the change of Faramir's character, but it offsets the rest of the trilogy. Even though, it won't be chronological then, the amazing ending of the book was sam finding out that Frodo was alive but captured by the enemy. ROTK has some of the worst changes IMHO. The flashback is the only one of the little "prologues" at the beginning of each movie that I dislike. I really missed things that happened, like the fiefdoms of Gondor coming to Minas Tirith, or the Rangers of the North. The theatrical release was missing several things, while the extended edition had a few of them, they still missed out on some parts, and Cirith Ungol would have been way cooler with the watchers. The ending of ROTK is what really bugs me. Frodo pushing Gollum in is bad and the lack of the Scouring of the Shire, takes away the two best twists Tolkien had.

I can't understand people who dislike LOTR. This series is pure genious.

FOTR is the most adventurous and my personal favourite, because it is more personal on a smaller scale. 10/10

TTT is my next favourite, it is a bit of a mix between the two, my biggest dissapointment was that it kind of ended half way through. 9.8/10

ROTK is by far my least favourite, it really left some of the best parts of the book out, however the ending is just amazing and makes you want to cry. 9.6/10

Alll I can say, is that I wish there is more to come. I want the Hobbit to be made, and the uber edition to be released (lol...not sure, but there are a lot of shots that never even made this. I've heard rumours that there might be a release with these)...I hope there is but I'll just have to wait and see.
