The Pirate Movie (1982)

I Would Love to Have this Movie on DVD!

It is so nice to know that I'm not the only person who loves the Pirate Movie! This movie is loosely based on the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Pirates of Penzance and it is without a doubt my favorite version of that operetta and in fact before I watched this movie I didn't even know about the Pirates of Penzance or who Gilbert and Sullivan were. I have read that the professional critics totally trashed this movie in their reviews, but when I first wached the Pirate Movie on television I thought it was such a cute and funny movie and I loved the tounge-in-cheek humor of it which I guess some people just didn't get, and I loved the admittedly corny but cute bouncy peppy and catchy songs and the beautiful scenes of the Australian coast and reefs and caves. Everyone is excellent in this movie but the best are Kristy McNichol as Mabel, Chrisopher Atkins as Frederic, Ted Hamilton as the Pirate King and Bill Kerr as Mabel's father, the Major General. I first watched this movie when I was a kid and I even taped it but it got taped over so a couple of years ago I received a gift certficate for Christmas and I used it to buy this movie on video but I let someone borrow it and unfortunately I never got my tape back so I have to get a new tape but what I would really prefer is to have this movie on DVD so I'm hoping that a widescreen DVD will be availale sometime in the near future! BTW: Besides the Pirate Movie I have watched three filmed versions of The Pirates of Penzance and I really have to say that my favorite Pirate King is Ted Hamilton and I personally think of him as the Definitive Pirate King!
