Longest Running TV Show Today

The fifth season of The Simspons is certainly one of the best ever. Though an entirely new staff of writers and producers takes over for the show in this season, they manage to offer up some of the most hilarious scripts and fantastic direction the series has seen. Sure there are some dogs here, mostly among the B stories, but the quality of the season is undeniable.
Highlights include the hilarious Beatles parody in Homer's Barbershop Quartet, Burns' quest for his long-lost teddy bear, the effect legalized gambling has on the town, Bart's tour of a box factory, savage sack beatings, Kent Brockman swearing allegiance to our new insect overlords, and a Junior Campers' rafting trip that's unforgettably hilarious. This season also includes such classic lines as Sideshow Bob's explanation of his "Die, Bart, Die" tattoo (it's German for The Bart), Flanders' memorable Godspeed, little doodle, and the totally unexplainable Colonel Klink, why have you forsaken me?

The range of guest stars is probably the best that the show had yet seen. David Crosby and George Harrison play themselves in the barbershop episode. Other music guests include The Ramones, James Brown, Bob Goulet and James Taylor (he's not as laid back as people think). Also playing himself, Ernest -Fatso Judson- Borgnine is great as the stand-in, celebrity dad on the rafting trip. Ditto for James Woods who takes over for Apu in one episode. Werner Klemperer is simply hilarious as Homer's Guardian Angel. The great Kelsey Grammer returns as Sideshow Bob and Albert Brooks turns in another memorable performance as self-help guru Brad Goodman. In addition to this already impressive roster, this season also sees guest appearances from Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathleen Turner, Sam Neill and Buzz Aldrin.
